For Immediate Release:
SURVEY: TOP IT SYSTEMS
DEVELOPMENT EXECS
AVERAGE OVER $230,000 IN TOTAL
COMPENSATION
Systems Development Taking on a
More Strategic Role
DALLAS, Texas -- IT systems
development executives are no longer merely
program writers filling programming requests. A
new survey by The Broadmoor Group, a Dallas based
executive search consultancy, indicates that IT
systems development executives are growing into a
more strategic role, which is reflected in their
compensation. According to the survey, average
compensation for IT systems development vice
presidents at top firms is $237,024, including
base and bonus. High end compensation packages for
such executives exceed $320,000.
"IT systems development
executives now are expected to drive initiatives
related to marketing systems, sales force
automation, customer relationship management,
e-business, and business intelligence," notes Jim
Leverette, partner with The Broadmoor Group. "The
true "A" players who can link business initiatives
to the technology side of an organization are in
short supply."
The average base pay of IT
systems development vice presidents tracked by the
survey was $165,677. The average bonus offered was
$71,347, though bonuses ranged from $33,000 to
$150,000. Average base pay of IT systems
development directors was $139,00,762, with an
average bonus of $43,726. Bonuses for IT systems
development directors ranged from as little as
$7,000 to as much as $90,000. Leverette observes
that some IT development executives report getting
smaller bonuses this year, though their base pay
has not been affected by the economic downturn.
Leverette also notes that
technical knowledge is no longer sufficient for
executives filling top IT systems development
roles.
"The ability to communicate, to
conceptualize, and to understand business are
essential," he says. "Today, the lead systems
development executive is the chief liaison with
the CIO, the executive management team, and all
business units regarding systems development
planning. Gone are the days of the one-dimensional
IT professional. Those who only have a technical
bent need not apply."
